US FDA reports that there are several brands of pet food being banned and recalled. They apparently were found to be contaminated with Melamine, a fertiliser based plastic - same stuff your plastic plates are made of. It's toxic and was found to be contained in wheat-gluten and rice protein laced with melamine.

FDA reports 16 related pet deaths, due to kidney failure, but organisations say the numbers are already into the thousands. Symptoms are lethargy, loss of appetite or vomiting.
